It’s a wonder to comprehend how we’ve allowed those that aren’t us to determine our lives
Like how old white men can pass legislation to determine if a woman can carry a life
Or how they can determine the matter of black lives
Or brown lives
Or red lives
Or how Americans can determine if middle easterners need freedom
Only to bomb them without reason
Or how we can so easily detain young Mexican children and no one batts an eye
Tell me what is the value of a human life?
If it isn’t born yet, or it isn’t white
There is limited value in human lives
So many of the people that look like me have lost their lives,
Refugees seeking asylum risk theirs trying to cross imaginary borders
Figuratively and physically they face uncertainty Here in this nation
The very nation where “all men are created equal”
Static- transmission error
This nation where only white men are created equal
There is no equality for those who hold melanin in their skin
And if you need evidence?!
Why don’t you check out the Declaration of Independence
Or the emancipation proclamation?
Or the 13th amendment?
Don’t you remember manifest destiny
Or the horrors of Jim Crow
You’re so patriotic about Pearl Harbor
You ain’t see the terror they did to Japanese-American folk?
We all remember 9/11, how many Muslims got their turbans ripped off?
Don’t forget black lives matter and how they changed the rhetoric
What about pride
What about last night?
When another young black man was murdered by the cops
37 shots to his head, back, chest, face
Blood splattered all over the spot
Unarmed and just trying to get home
Harassed for some arbitrary reason
We saw it in the internment camps they just put those Japanese in
Transmission error
Just this morning
We saw a Mexican baby separated from his mother in a detention center they’re putting refugees in
This ain’t just America though
We see this shit across the globe
Naw this isn’t just America
In Africa they’re dying in droves
From Sudan to South Africa
They rape our mother land
Everywhere you look
They’re killing our planet
Giving us false hope
Telling us that freedom is a privilege
But what they didn’t tell you
Was that was
Designated only to those who’s skin lacks melanin
Wake up my brethren, oh what a wonderful world
